Daniel Smith cobalt violet PV49 pigment
One of the other colours in my palette is cobalt violet, but not Schmincke cobalt violet hue. I’m referring to Daniel Smith’s cobalt violet (PV49). It’s a single pigment colour and it’s more like pink really. Well to my eyes it is pink. Or magenta. It reminds me of a some vividly coloured naturally occurring orchids.
It’s a relatively weak colour, meaning you have to load up the brush quite a bit (a lot), thus making it even more expensive to use. But I think it’s worth it. It really is a saturated colour. It’s also strongly granulating, so it’s hard to get an even coverage. I apply it fairly evenly, it then does it’s own thing.
I usually paint the interior section of lungs cobalt violet, as well as cells (neurons). And sometimes I go over the top of ear lobes with this colour after they have been painted with naples yellow reddish.
