Where is your money really going?

Where is your money really going?

vandenhooven 31 August 2025

When I buy your art, where is my money really going?
We’re glad you asked. And we’ll get straight to it.

Firstly, know that if you buy an artwork, Leslie is able to reinvest that into more art materials…

First on the list is that he’d like to buy a professional lino printing press so that he can do more lino prints like this one, this one, this one, and this one. The price of that equipment is approximately AUD$755 (with shipping to Australia). This would enable Leslie to create cleaner prints (as you can see these ones turned out a bit dirty around the edges as they were done by hand (well foot pressure) on the garage floor.

Leslie is also fixing his teeth this year and requires a dental implant. The cost of this is about $5000 as he requires an additional procedure, something called a “sinus lift”, which is essentially a type of bone graft.

What are your future discretionary expenses?

Being of Dutch decent, I tend to buy bicycle-related merchandise. That is my main hobby quite apart from art and design. I also enjoy other activities such as language learning. So I do sometimes spend money on streaming entertainment, language learning resources, books.

I haven’t done any overseas travel or had a decent vacation in the last 10 years or so. I’d like to do more travel in future. I feel I deserve it. I deserve a break. Perhaps a trip to Manhattan in the year 2025? That’s certainly what we’d like. I also need to purchase a new computer as our current one is almost 10 years old.

Apart from obvious things like art materials (paper, pigment), I am  continually improving my websites and so we often buy bits of code such as plugins and outsource some other coding work that I can’t do myself.

This spending does not include that associated with a normal cost of living such as food, clothing, housing, transport and medicine.
